About the 5 Moments*
When?
Clean your hands before touching a patient when approaching him/her.

Why?
To protect the patient against harmful germs carried on your hands.
The concept of the World Health Organization WHO "My 5 Moments for Hand Hygiene" defines the key moments when health-care workers should perform hand hygiene. By clicking on the moments you learn more about each moment.

The concept does not forsee health-care workers to perform hand hygiene twice in a row but to understand the indication. Means that I do not have to disinfect my hands after touching a patient (Moment 4) and again before touching the next patient (Moment 1) - I only have to do it once. Hands have to be washed only when visibly soiled.
